4,071 RTC staffers must go, insists Kerala High Court

The court had earlier directed the corporation to relieve the empanelled staff and also fixed a time-schedule for it.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday rejected a petition by the KSRTC seeking more time to dismiss the nearly 4,071 empanelled employees working as conductors and facilitate the appointment of persons from the rank list of Public Service Commission.

The court also rapped KSRTC managing director Tomin Thachankary for his comments in the media that it would be difficult to relieve the empanelled employees as per the court directive.

The court had earlier directed the corporation to relieve the empanelled staff and also fixed a time-schedule for it. The KSRTC sought two months more for implementing the decision citing the Sabarimala pilgrimage season and school examinations.

The court has asked the corporation to intimate the date for implementing the decision during the next hearing of the case scheduled on December 17. The court has also hinted at the possibility of asking the MD to appear in person...

In case of failure to intimate the deadline for action. The court mentioned that it knows what to do if the officials concerned failed to implement its verdict. The PSC rank holders for the conductor post have approached the court citing delay in their appointment.
