Nellore: Corporate touch to LKGs, courtesy Anganwadis

Being introduced for first time in Nellore, Chittoor.

Nellore: After implementing the career foundation course for students of selected ZP and Municipal schools to prepare students for competitive exams from school level, the government is gearing up to introduce nursery, LKG and UKG for children in Anganwadi centres for the first time in the state on the lines of corporate schools starting with Nellore and Chittoor districts.

Orientation classes are being held for Anganwadi teachers in corporate schools. Three Anganwadi centres each located within one kilometer radius are being clubbed in urban areas to launch the ambitious programme as part of providing pre-school non-formal education under Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme.

Urban development minister P. Narayana said the idea is to give strong foundation for the poorest of poor from nursery level to improve their learning skills and excel in the academics.

His contention is that the IQ of the children of the present generation is very high. They are capable of grasping anything if their intelligence is channeled in the proper direction.

As a first step he instructed the Child Development Project Officers to visit 20 to 25 corporate schools offering nursery, LKG and UKG in their jurisdiction and observe the infrastructure, quality of education and teaching material being used to acquire the same for the Anganwadi centres. He deputed a consultant, Ms Prasanna, from Narayana institutions to guide the CDPOs in Nellore.

Municipal commissioners and chairpersons have been asked to find accommodation to establish three Anganwadi centres in one place taking the help of corporate companies for developing infrastructure for the centres under CSR.

A timeframe of one month has been fixed to start the centres in Nellore and Chittoor. In-charge Project Director Woman and Child Welfare in Chittoor Ms S. Lakshmi said they have started implementing model Anganwadi centres in 210 centres in Chittoor.
