Hyderabad: Sudden rain takes Met and the city by surprise

The local weather bureau had no indication of the rain that hit the city on Tuesday night.

Hyderabad: The local weather bureau had no indication of the rain that hit the city on Tuesday night and continued all through the day on Wednesday. The skies clouded up towards the night on Tuesday and many areas received showers. The maximum temperature dropped to 24ºCelsius, 5ºC lower than normal.

The heavy cloud that formed over almost the entire state was attributed to a low pressure area. IMD-Hyderabad director Y.K. Reddy said. “The well marked low pressure area over south interior Karnataka and north interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala persists. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at isolated places on Thursday.”

The forecast for the city was generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm or a dust storm, the IMD said. The cloudy skies also resulted in warmer nights, with a marked rise in minimum temperatures at one or two places. The lowest minimum temperature of 14ºC was recorded at Adilabad. The town had recorded 6ºC last week. In Hyderabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 21.5ºC.
