Hyderabad: Nomination process adds to water woes

The police bandobast has made it difficult for residents to approach the officials with problems.

Hyderabad: Heavy police bandobast at the Secunderabad Cantonment Board office is affecting citizens who are facing a shortage of drinking water at Janakpuri, Karkhana. The roads to the office and the nearby areas are blocked for the past two days due to the filing of nomination papers.

“The police bandobast has made it difficult for us to approach the officials with our problems,” said advocate Arcot Narayan Rao, who stays at Janakpuri. The area was not having proper water supply for the past week.

“Even the grievances posted on the official website is not being addressed or responded to. We are requesting the CEO to attend to this issue and give immediate instructions to the concerned officials to supply drinking water to Janakpuri Colony and save the lives of the residents there,” Mr Rao said

Families were having to get tankers or purchase water in bottles, said colony resident welfare association president Vidyasagar.

He alleged that about 20-30 per cent residents of the colony did not receive supply at all. “We gave complaints but nothing was done. The water we get is not sufficient,” he said.

Ahen asked about the claims, an SCB official said supply was reduced to once in two-three days as work was being carried out on water pipelines. “Earlier the residents were receiving 10 hours of water per day, which has now been made once in 2-3 days. The SCB has changed the supply to Godavari now and that was conveyed to the colony presidents during meetings,” said Mr Ramesh, an official from the SCB water department.
