Hyderabad: Government hospitals are running short of beds due to the increase in the number of dengue patients.
City resident Anwar Mumeen, who rushed his eight-year-old child to Niloufer Hospital, found that at the government hospital there were beds and no medical staff to attend to the child properly. The family then moved him to a private hospital.
Mr Mumeen said, “The child had low pulse and low blood pressure. We asked whether a bed would be available but there was no response. We rushed him to a private hospital.”
Mr Mujtaba Askari, who runs a volunteer help desk at the government hospitals, said, “There is a major load on government hospitals due the large number of dengue cases. Nurses and senior doctors need to be available 24x7 to treat these critical cases.”
Cost of the diagnostic tests is also another major issue. While the government hospital do it for Rs 200, private diagnostic centres charge up to Rs 3,000.
Patients demanded that the prices be controlled.
