Hyderabad: Most Ganesh idols will have a bumpy ride on Thursday, the main day of immersions, as 90 per cent of the procession routes are full of potholes. The roads at RTC crossroads, MJ Market, Lak-dikapul, Saroornagar, Kapra, ECIL, Madhapur have huge potholes and GHMC staff cannot carry out repairs due to the rain.
Mr Anish Mishra said, “The road from Wipro junction towards Nanak-ramguda is in the worst possible condition. Huge potholes make it a nightmare for two-wheeler riders.”
Most areas on the immersion route, from Balapur to Hussainsagar, have waterlogging poin-ts. On Wednesday, there was heavy waterlogging at Balapur junction, the starting point of the main procession.
Keshavagiri, Chandra-yangutta, Nagulabanda, Falaknuma, Afzalgunj, Gowliguda Chaman, Nampally and Basheerbagh too have many potholes and water logging points.
Apart from the main procession route, internal roads at Aliabad, Chatrinaka, Vattepally, Murgi Chowk, Begum Bazaar, Kishanbagh and other parts are partially damaged; GHMC officials said that it might not be possible to repair them during the rain.
GHMC south zone deputy commissioner Dr N. Yadagiri Rao said that the rains were preventing the repair of potholes. “Last year we used 27 vehicles for sanitation and other work during the processions. This time, we have deputed staff with 84 vehicles. Last year we received about 100 complaints from pandal organisers on road conditions. This time there have been no complaints,” he said.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy has issued orders to fill up potholes by Thursday morning and to ensure that all immersion routes are free of damage.
