Seven more bodies dug out at Kavalappara

So far the rescue team retrieved 30 bodies from the disaster site at Kavalappara and 29 are yet to be located.

Kozhikode: Though the rain hampered search operations slightly, rescue forces dug out seven more bodies of missing people from the marshy land at Kaval-appara in Malappuram district on Wednesday while the could not retri-eve any from Puthumala (Wayanad).

So far the rescue team retrieved 30 bodies from the disaster site at Kavalappara and 29 are yet to be located.

The total number of missing people from the hamlet was 59 as per the list prepared by the local administrative body.

At Puthumala though there were more than 100 volunteers in action on the 7th day of the landslide, no bodies were found on Wednesday.

Though the efforts started early in the morning, the continuous rain created obstacles.

Seven more persons are still buried somewhere as per the list prepared by the Meppadi panchayat. They have so far got only ten bodies of the 17 people missing from here.

The death toll in the state due to rain havoc on Wednesday was 104 with seven more bodies retrie-ved from Kavalappara and two rain-related deaths.

The search and rescue operations will also continue on Thursday.

More than 30 Poclain earthmovers are engaged in search operations in both the sites despite hostile climatic conditions.
