Following the direction from the government, the couple left Tirunelveli for Chennai by air, on Wednesday.
Tirunelveli: The aged couple - Shanmugavel (72) and wife Senthamarai (70), who valiantly fought off armed robbers last Sunday at their farm house near Kadayam in the district, are to be given a bravery award by Chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, at the Independence day celebrations, in Chennai, on August 15.
Recommended for bravery award by the district administration, the district collector was ordered to send the couple to Chennai to participate in the Independence day celebrations. Following the direction from the government, the couple left Tirunelveli for Chennai by air, on Wednesday. Ambasamudram tahsildar, Venkatesh, who made all necessary arrangements for their travel too accompanied the couple to Chennai.
