Streamline chain tanks, says K Chandrashekhar Rao

Mr Rao said that after the monsoon season, all the tanks, canals, check dams, reservoirs should be with full of water and that's his dream.

Hyderabad: With an objective of not losing a drop of water from Telangana soil, the Chief Minister Mr K. Chandrashekhar Rao has directed officials from the irrigation department to streamline chain tanks system across the state. Mr Rao said that after the monsoon season, all the tanks, canals, check dams, reservoirs should be with full of water and that’s his dream.

“We have to make use of every drop from project canals, rains and regenerated sources to fill tanks in the state. We have inherited chain tanks system from Kakatiya kingdom. Integrating canals with tanks, we have to map mandals for this task,” said Mr Rao, while reviewing ‘Integration of chain tanks with canals of heavy and medium irrigation projects,’ here at Pragati Bhavan on Saturday.

Mr Rao further said that 265tmc of water allocated under Bachavat Tribunal for tanks in Telangana in 1974. But, all the tanks were ruined during the united AP ruling.

“We’re reviving our ancient system of tanks under Mission Kakatiya. Our aim is to not waste a drop of water on Telangana soil. In each chain, we have 20-70 tanks. We have to identify the first tank and integrate that with canals. If the first tank is filled up, then subsequent tanks will automatically get water under chain system. For this, feeder canal and crop canals should be prepared. Every executive engineer should have Mandal-level mapping so that filling up tanks using appropriate canal will become easier. Water shouldn’t run, it should flow gently, then only we can make use of water for irrigation and drinking purposes,” he said.
