Kalaburagi airport ready for flight trial

The works on the Public Terminal Building (PTB) are also in the final stages.

Kalaburagi: Ending years of speculation, the newly constructed Kalaburagi airport is all set to commence commercial operations in the next few months.
The trial run of the flights is expected within a few days as most of the works on the runway and also the Air Traffic Control Room have been completed. The works on the Public Terminal Building (PTB) are also in the final stages.

Kalaburagi MP and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who inspected the progress of works, told the media here on Saturday that efforts will be made to start commercial operations from October-end. “Of the total project cost of Rs 176 crore, works amounting to Rs 96 crore have been completed.

Orders have been placed for electrical equipment amounting to Rs 28 crore and they will be procured soon. In this budget, Rs 65 crore has been earmarked for the project. There was a delay in the release of funds as the new coalition government.

I have spoken to Additional Chief Secretary for Infrastructure Development Sandeep Dave and asked him to immediately release Rs 7 crore to make payments to contractors. He has agreed for the release of funds”, Mr Kharge said. He directed DC Venkatesh Kumar and the Chief Engineer of PWD to remove any roadblocks to the project.
