GHMC meeting ignores tax-payers

The GHMC spends at least Rs 10 lakh on each council meeting.

Hyderabad: TRS and MIM corporators spent most of GHMC’s second council meeting on Tuesday fighting over whose questions needed to be discussed. The GHMC spends at least Rs 10 lakh on each council meeting including food, power, stationary arrangements. The TRS claimed that MIM corporators hogged the most time, especially during question hour.

While Mayor B. Rammohan and his predecessor Majid Hussain had a verbal duel, TRS women corporators spent time taking selfies. There were 16 questions on the agenda for the meeting which started at around 11 am. For two hours, the discussion was on self-help groups and the two-bedroom housing scheme, which were of no concern to tax-payers.

Out of the 16 questions, seven were asked by Mr Hussain and the rest by the TRS. The issues included sanitation, monsoon preparedness, Ramzan arrangements and the 100-day plan. Somajiguda TRS corporator M. Seshu Kumari alleged that Mr Hussain took the most time. “Does your ward alone has problems,” she said.

The Mayor asked corporators not to stretch the issue and instead ask the questions on the agenda. While this was going on, a few TRS women corporators seemed to be bored with issues relevant to the city and talking among themselves and taking selfies.
