No sign yet of leopard on Hyderabad varsity ground

Forest officials are, however, taking precautions lest the leopard be hiding in some bushes.

Hyderabad: Forest officials have not found any signs of a leopard on the University of Hyderabad premises, after the staff complained that th-ey had sighted a leopard.

Forest officials are, however, taking precautions lest the leopard be hiding in some bushes. They have placed six camera traps to track the leopard’s movement and also plan to keep cages with baits to trap the leopard.

The forest department is on its toes to collect pug marks but have not noticed any so far. Not even a stray dog has been killed since the university staff complained about the leopard, but given security of students, the forest department is not leaving anything to chance.

“We have not got any sign to say that a leopard is wandering in the university,” forest divisional officer, Shamshabad, Mr C.H. Sivaiah, said. “Attempts were made to identify pug marks, but we haven’t found any. We can’t exactly say that there is no leopard. It might be hiding in the forest area. So, we have fixed trap cameras. If needed, we will set up cages too,” the official added.
