Vision to build ‘smart, sustainable’ Airport City

Airport city is designed to be a pedestrian-friendly-space.

Bengaluru: The master plan, says Hari, involves constructing an Airport City, its vision being- ‘Build a sustainable, smart and vibrant airport city’. It is proposed to have business parks, convention centres, concert arenas, retail outlets, dining, entertainment, hospitality, etc. All of this is proposed to be built inside the campus. Airport city is designed to be a pedestrian-friendly-space. Therefore, parking will be captured right at the entrance and one would have to walk the rest of the way or depend on electric vehicles for navigating through the airport city. Public transport element is also covered here when metro towards the airport will be completed by December 2023. Two metro stations- one, at the airport terminal and the other at the airport city, is in the plan. The transit arena, convention center, dining-entertainment, business parks, etc., will be placed within 500 mts from the Airport city metro station.

About 70 acres in the Airport city has been devoted for Central Park. To add to the sensory experience, the airport city also has water bodies with walking lanes across the lakes. Therefore the idea is to create a lively environment for not only travelers but also residents in general.

Speaking to the DC Correspondent, Vishaka V Warrier, Mr. Hari said, “The art symposium is a precursor for art collaborations. With the expansion taking an artistic face, we want to make the movement more inclusive and democratic. Airport although privately run, should be a platform for the people, of the people and by the people.”

Speaking about the results of developing Airport City, Mr. Hari said, “The Airport City will kick start the socio-economic development of the entire region of Devanahalli. To elaborate, by developing the Airport City, jobs will be created, businesses will grow and the entire region will see an improvement in residences surrounding Devanahalli.” Following regulatory approvals, Mr. Hari said that complete information about the Airport City will be disclosed.
