Thiruvananthapuram: Give temple back to adivasis, says activist

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said that it is the duty of every citizen to uphold the constitutional principles.

He was speaking at the ‘We the people with the Constitution’ conference held at Central Stadium here on Tuesday.

Dalit activist Sunny M. Kapikadu said that the ownership of Sabarimala temple should be handed over to the Adivasis to ensure social justice to the. So far everything was being appropriated from the adivasis. Justice would be done if it is given back to the community, said Mr Kapikadu.

The most revolutionary slogan to be raised now is to uphold the Constitution. Even as the Supreme Court verdict on the Sabarimala issue was delivered on Tuesday, a section of mainstream media came up with a false propaganda that the earlier verdict was stayed. The court had only posted the case to January 22 and decided to hear the review petitions in the open court, said Mr Kapikadu

Earlier, Mayor V.K. Prasanth administered a pledge to the participants to uphold the Constitution.
