Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking directions to the state government to identify and reserve government lands for burial grounds in all districts and taluks. The petitioner, Mohamed Ikbal, had approached court. He had earlier filed a similar petition, following which the court had directed him to file a representation to the government. After his representation was not considered, Ikbal knocked on the doors of the court again, citing that as per the information made available through RTI, there are 1,224 villages in the state which do not have burial grounds.
Cyanide Mohan appeal adjourned
The High Court adjourned an appeal filed by Cyanide Mohan, a notorious criminal who is an accused in multiple rape and murder cases. He has filed the appeal challenging the order of a lower court sentencing him to death for the murder and robbery of Sunanda, who was from Sulya. In his appeal, Mohan, who is arguing the case himself, alleges that after his arrest, the report from the forensic lab was altered by the investigating police.
Following the allegation that the police have tampered with the reports, the High Court on Monday observed that he should stop suspecting the police and rather explain why all the women who came in contact with him faced a similar fate. The case was adjourned to Tuesday. Mohan, a former school teacher has been sentenced to death in three separate cases by a trial court.
Reservation for differently abled
The High Court asked the principal secretary to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) to appear before it on November 20 in a case seeking directions for reserving posts for differently abled candidates at Victoria Hospital.
