Salem: The Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations (Jactto-Geo) on Saturday announced that they will launch a state-wide indefinite agitation from November 27 to press for resolving their charter of demands including scrapping new pension scheme.
The Jactto-Geo office-bearers, led by coordinators Subramaniyan, Meenakshisundaram and others, who gathered here to discuss the modalities of their proposed “indefinite strike”, said the State government should settle their 21 months pay arrears immediately. “If the pay arrears can be cleared for the IAS, IPS officials and Judges, why can’t it be also paid out to other government staff,” the coordinators asked.
Meenakshisundaram said government should immediately give up its plans to close down 5,000 state-run schools and urged the Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami to invite the Jactto-Geo leaders for talks to find an amicable settlement for the long-pending issues.
The union leaders would be visiting various districts to explain their programme of action between November 19- 23.
They also criticised the Chief Minister’s “autocratic attitude” of late.
Meenakshisundaram said if invited for talks, Jactto-Geo leaders were ready to explain how the Tamil Nadu government could mobilise resources to meet their demands.
“We are not going to be cowed down by ESMA-TESMA laws this time and we will go ahead with our agitation if the issues are not resolved,” the coordinators added.
