Bengaluru Mayor visits waste plants, calls for speedy clearance

The MSGP plant has capacity to process 500 metric tonnes of waste per day and it has been functioning satisfactorily.

BENGALURU: In the wake of garbage crisis resurfacing and festival garbage in the city being left unattended, Mayor G. Padmavathi visited two waste processing plants and exhorted the authorities to pull up their socks and to ensure that the garbage is treated on a daily basis.

Padvavathi along with ruling party leader R. S. Satyanarayana and BBMP Joint Commissioner (Health) Sarfaraz Khan visited waste processing plants at Doddaballapura and Mavalli and took stock of the situation and directed the authorities to process the waste to the maximum potential.

The MSGP plant has capacity to process 500 metric tonnes of waste per day and it has been functioning satisfactorily. In addition, they have set up one more shed to process the waste and authorities there have been asked to keep it open rather than covered to ensure better aeration, Satyanarayana said.

The garage flow to the MSGP plant has been reduced as some of it has been diverted to quarries at Mittaganahalli and Bellahalli in Yelahanka. Since the city was getting rain for the last two days, the BBMP wanted to ensure that the plant functions without any hiccups.

Mayor directed officials at the MSGP waste processing plant at Doddaballapura to process the waste on daily basis and ensure that there is not backlog. A compost unit at the MSGP was inaugurated and the compost will be sent to MCF for marketing, Satyanarayana added.

Further, mayor visited Mavallipura waste processing plants. The BBMP has been planning to set up two to three waste processing plants at the Mavallipura after getting positive response from the interested parties. Each of the companies can be given about 20 acres of land to set up plant for waste to energy concept. With this, garbage crisis can be tackled effectively, he added.
