Bengaluru: Manekshaw Ground to turn into fortress

Top cop said the police have tightened the security at the parade ground since August 1 and the policemen are maintaining 24-hour vigil.

BENGALURU: The city police have made elaborate security arrangement for Independence Day celebrations at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground on Monday and there will be heavy police deployment across the city. In addition to the commandos of the Garuda Force, Army’s Mine Detection Team will also be pressed into service to avert any untoward incident.

Police Commissioner N. S. Megharikh said the police have tightened the security at the parade ground since August 1 and the policemen are maintaining 24-hour vigil. “Two commando vehicles and two bullet proof vehicles have been stationed at the venue. As a preventive step, details of those who are staying in lodges across the city have been collected and verified. We have installed 40 security cameras in and around the parade ground to constantly monitor the situation,” he said.

For the bandobust duty at the venue, 12 DCPs, 22 ACPs, 55 inspectors, 105 PSIs, 79 ASIs, 168 head constables, 416 constables, 70 policewomen, 151 policemen in plain clothes, 106 intelligence staff and 800 home guards will be deployed. Besides, 40 KSRP platoons and two platoons of quick response teams will be deputed. Sky sentries will be deployed at strategic locations.
