Corruption in every department: Kamal Haasan

Actor's remarks go viral.

Chennai: Iconic actor Kamal Haasan, who never shies away from controversies in calling a spade a spade, has done it again. He's now all over the social media and regional channels stating loud and clear that there "is corruption in every department" in Tamil Nadu. Well, that's something everyone knows for a long time but nobody, not at least people in high places with high stakes, would dare to admit so openly and before the mainstream media.

"In all the departments", declared the star at a crowded press conference here Wednesday, when a reporter asked him to respond to state finance minister D. Jayakumar taking objection to his corruption charge made some time back saying that the 'system' is not alright.

The minister had challenged Kamal, saying he should not make such sweeping statements. Also, by saying the 'system' was bad, was he trying to say that the Indian Constitution was not alright, asked minister Jayakumar.

When the reporter at the Wednesday meet chose to dig out the week-old 'system' issue, Kamal was quick to take it on at full thrust, being a man of strong convictions and bold public stances on even sensitive socio-political issues.

"If I say that the road is bad and if they ask me to point out which point in the road is bad, what could I say? I might have crossed that point in the road and gone", he began his defence against the AIADMK minister.

And then came the reporter's persistent question on the minister's anguish if the star had meant to slap every department with his corruption charge. "(yes), every department, all departments", Kamal thundered, his face flush with anger.

The common citizen, whose woes at the hands of all-round corruption in various departments of administration he had showcased in his hit-movie ‘Indian’ of 1996, would well agree that things have only got worse since then and perhaps a sequel must be scripted.
