500 delegates to attend BRICS meet in Visakhapatnam

100 foreign delegates for the 3-day meet.

Visakhapatnam: Around 100 foreign delegates from BRICS nations will take part in the three-day BRICS summit that will take place in Vizag from September 14 to 16. Apart from the foreign delegates around 400 Indians will participate in the meeting. Representatives of German government development bank KFW, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other international development banks will take part in the meet.

Basing on the discussions and deliberations of the three days ‘Vizag Declaration’ will be prepared. The theme of the BRICS meeting at Vizag is ‘Building responsive, inclusive and collective solutions for urbanisation”. Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) of government of India, joint secretary, B Anand, said that BRICS nations contribute around 20 per cent of the world GDP and are fast growing economies in the world.

Mr Anand observed that the BRICS meeting is an opportunity for Vizag to showcase state’s cultural and investment potential to the global participants of the international event. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), joint secretary, Alok A. Dimri (Multilateral Economic Relations Division) had observed the global meeting is also an opportunity for Andhra Pradesh to attract partners to take part in the construction of new capital city – Amaravati.

While the eighth BRICS Summit will be held in Goa on October 15-16. Before the Goa meeting around 95 meetings are planned across the country and Vizag’s meeting will be the third among them. India assumed the chairmanship of BRICS on February 15 this year from Russia. India’s chairmanship tenure will last till December 31, 2016.

A preparatory meeting on the event was held on Wednesday in which state chief secretary S.P. Tucker has took part. While a steering committee has been appointed for conducting the meeting a working committee with various heads of departments and senior officials will be formed for which a G.O. is expected to be issued shortly. The working group had decided to meet at least once in 10 days until the event.
