Take our issues to PM, farmers tell Jayalalithaa

The consortium of Cauvery delta farmers appealed to Ms Jayalalithaa to discuss their problems during her meeting with Mr Modi.

Thanjavur: Ahead of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s New Delhi visit, farmers’ association in the Cauvery delta districts on Monday demanded that the region be announced as “agricultural zone” and all farm loans be waived off.

“ONGC should leave this place immediately. People of this region should be consulted by the state and Central governments on such projects. The government should ensure that rights of people dependent on farms are protected,” Lenin, coordinator of Movement Against Disasters, said.

The consortium of Cauvery delta farmers appealed to Ms Jayalalithaa to discuss their problems during her meeting with Mr Modi. In his letter to the CM, consortium general secretary V. Sath yanarayanan said the state government sho uld insist the Centre to fix MSP for agricultural produces based on the recommendations of Dr M. S. Swaminat han committee.

Similarly, the farmers wing of the TMC also requested Ms Jayalalithaa to request Mr Modi, to waive off farm loans disbursed by nationalised banks and to establish Cauvery Management Board.
