Hyderabad: With no solution coming from the University of Hyderabad administration on the issue of deaths of spotted deer on the campus, nature enthusiasts from the university have written to the Prime Minister's office, Telangana state Chief Minister’s Office, among others, asking them to intervene.
The letters were also despatched to the Union ministry for environment and forests, Union minister Maneka Gandhi, the state chief wildlife warden and to chairperson of the People for Animal.
Mr Jillapalli Ravi, a PhD student and founder of the campus wildlife photography group Wild Lens, who initiated the effort, said, “Several deer have been killed in the university, almost all of them by stray dogs. If this continues the small deer population of UoH will be wiped out. There is a case of deer injury or death almost every other day. It is saddening that this issue has not received any serious response. I hope at least one of the people in government to whom we have addressed our concerns responds to our appeal.”
