Kings College Hospital of London, UK hospital for Amaravati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to perform bhoomi puja on June 6.

Amaravati: The internationally famous Kings College Hospital of London, UK, is preparing to start construction works from June first week for a 1,000-bed hospital at Amaravati.

The King’s College Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust and Indo-UK Health-care Pvt. Ltd plan to open 11 new hospitals in various areas of the country under which one 1,000-bed hospital would be opened at Amaravati. It would be the first super-specialty hospital in the new capital. The Kings Hospital would invest Rs 1,000 crore on the hospital.

The old Government General Hospital (GGH) at Guntur is the biggest government hospital in the Amaravati capital region. NRI General Hospital and area government hospital situated at Mangalagiri are the two other hospitals in the capital region.

But there are no hospitals in the 29 villages of Amaravati. Hence, the government started upgrading Tullur primary health centre into 30-bed hospital to provide medical facilities to the public.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India and the United Kingdom for cooperation in the field of health sector for mutual benefit with focus on promoting health technology development, primary healthcare, strengthening of public health infrastructure and capacity, health security, including cooperation on infectious diseases, emerging infections and drug resistance.

Minister for medical and health Dr K. Srinivas said that Kings Hospital is ready to set foundation stone on June 6 at Amaravati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to perform bhoomi puja for the hospital on June 6. Dr Srnivas said that emergency, radiology, paediatric liver unit, orthopedic, liver transplantation and other services would be available in Amaravati with the starting of Kings Hospital. He said a medical university will come up affiliated to the Kings Hospital which will be headquarters for Kings UK.
