Chennai: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu accused the Congress, which had initially brought the GST Bill, of stalling the Parliament on the GST bill, and hurting the interest of the country.
Lashing out at the Congress for “blocking” the safe passage of the bill, Mr. Naidu told reporters here on Friday that he hoped good sense would prevail upon the Congress. “I hope the bill will be passed in the monsoon session. I hope the Congress will see reason and revise its stand,” he told reporters here on Friday.
Had the Congress conducted itself in a matured manner, several bills would have passed, he said and claimed the Congress made baseless allegations and diverted everyone’s attention whenever it could not find any answer to the problems including the AgustaWestland chopper deal scam, it was involved in.
Nevertheless, he was happy that contrary to media speculation, the Centre had largely been productive and fruitful.
The Lok Sabha session was adjourned on Wednesday passing ten bills and the Rajya Sabha passed 12 bills. The session was record of sorts as there was no single forced adjournment of the LS and the entire credit of successfully running it went to the Speaker and members of the House, he added.
