Vijayawada: Kanakadurga flyover work at snail's pace

Contractor denies rumours of equipment diversion to Hyderabad for other work.

Vijayawada: The delay in the construction of Kanakadurga flyover has been testing the patience of the citizens of Vijayawada and also the vehicular traffic coming from Hyderabad direction, a lot. The delay is causing suspicion that the Soma Constructions has diverted their equipment for a mega project on hire at Hyderabad. However, Soma Constrictions project manager Y. Sateesh dismissed the rumours as baseless and clarified that their entire equipment is being placed in Vijayawada only.

“Till the completion of the project, the equipment will be here only,” Sateesh said and however the Soma Constructions has no answer, when asked as to why the project is being delayed at the cost of the reputation of the capital city. District collector Babu A, in fact has been constantly prompting the contractors for the speedy completion of works. There are no indications about the project’s completion before December though the district administration is claiming the completion by August-end.

According to the people coming from Gollapudi direction into the city, around four to six man hours are being wasted everyday. While district administration is constantly exerting pressure over the contractor — Soma Constructions, it was able to complete only half of the scheduled works. Speaking about the progress in the flyover works, the district collector said that part of Krishnalanka Vehicular Under Passage (VUP) is partially over and the works at the other two VUPs are also under progress.

“Passenger Under Passage (PUP) at Krishnaveni Ghat is completed on one side,” he said and added that works at casting yard are also simultaneously going on. “We are expecting the flyover works to be completed by the end of August,” Collector expressed confidence. In fact, Collector Babu A. is instrumental in getting the things done in a speedy way, by constantly doing follow up with the Soma Constructions.
