TPCC must take steps to stop defections: V Hanumantha Rao

He would take up a one-day fast on April 16 demanding reservations in the private sector as well as in judiciary for oppressed communities.

Hyderabad: Congress senior MP V. Hanumantha Rao on Wednesday announced that he would take up a one-day fast on April 16 at Indira Park demanding reservations in the private sector as well as in judiciary for oppressed communities.

He lauded the judiciary coming to the rescue of farming community by insisting governments take up drought relief measures on war footing and expressing concern over banks giving more funds to defaulting companies and punishing small and marginal farmers who failed to repay the crop loans.

Mr Rao released a letter he had written to irrigation minister T. Harish Rao to take up desiltation of Osmansagar and Himayathsagar, the twin reservoirs supply drinking waters to Hyderabad.

In his letter, he said that both the reservoirs have completely dried up due to no inflows, and it was the best time for the government to include these two lakes under Mission Kakatiya for desiltation so that more water can be impounded in the rainy season.

Referring to defection of party MLA Chittem Rammohan Reddy to the TRS, the MP said it would be better for TPCC chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP leader K. Jana Reddy to take immediate steps to prevent defections.
