The Directorate of Medical Education stated that they didn't apply for new seats for Government Medical College, Anantapur.

Vijayawada: The Directorate of Medical Education stated that they didn’t apply for new seats for Government Medical College, Anantapur. The DME has decided to apply next time for the same, for 2018-19. Sharing details with Deccan Chronicle, the Director-Medical Education (DME-Academic) Dr. K. Babji stated that- Government of India has announced one-time increase of PG seats in all government colleges all over India in 2017-18. “We applied for seven colleges. All efforts were made and we are allotted 138 seats. This one time enhancement of PG seats is exclusively for clinical subjects and in existing PG departments only,” Dr. Babji has explained.

Government of India has again invited for 2nd phase one-time enhancement of PG seats in December, 2017, the DME said and added that only principals of five colleges have personally met the health ministry officials in January, 2018 and submitted all the relevant documents. “As per the new policy (3 PGs for one Professor), we expected 142 PG seats in 5 colleges -GMC Guntur: 55, SVMC Tirupathi: 25, AMC Visakhapatnam: 24, SMC Vijayawada: 8, and RIMS Kadapa: 30,” the DME explained, and added that they didn’t apply for KMC Kurnool and RMC Kakinada because there were sufficient number of PG seats already existing for the available faculty and infra.

For GMC, Anatapur, we have not applied for one time increase of PG seats because they do not have existing PG seats in clinical subjects, he said and added that when they applied last year for pre-PG MCI inspections, there was faculty deficiency of 28 per cent and 32 pc deficiency of residents. “We could rectify these deficiencies by taking necessary steps. We will apply for PG seats at GMC Ananta-pur next time.”
