Prices of fruits, coconuts soar in Hyderabad

Prices of apples, oranges, musk melon, sweet potato etc have risen sharply compared to three-four days ago.

Hyderabad: City residents felt the pinch of jacked up prices of fruits and regular items like coconut on the eve of Shivaratri when people observe a fast. 

Prices of apples, oranges, musk melon, sweet potato etc have risen sharply compared to three-four days ago. 

 

Water melon and grapes were an exception and were sold at normal prices on the festival day. 

Roadside vendors quoted higher prices for fruits. However, retail supermarkets were charged reasonably. They procured fresh fruits in bulk quantities and even set up separate stalls for the convenience of the customers.

E. Venkatesham, secretary at Gaddiannaram fruit market, said that large stocks of water melon and grapes were procured from Anantapur.”
