Hyderabad: Dons tell politicians to keep off

The issue was taken up at a conference in Osmania University.

Hyderabad: The Forum for Protection of Universities on Saturday raised the issue of interference by political leaders in the functioning of universities.

The issue was taken up at a conference in Osmania University, with professors from TS universities and some Central universities in attendance.

Prof. Battu Satyanarayana, president of OU Teachers Association, said, “Universities have their statutes, Acts and rules. They can govern themselves and do not need interference from politicians.”

“Politicians converted the HCU issue into political tourism to gain mileage, even though the courts were taking their course on the matter. Political interference should not be allowed in universities and the government should focus on improving standard of education, Prof. Satyanarayana said.
