BENGALURU: They struggled a lot to bring up their children and when their son Jeevan got into a medical college, they had high hopes on him.
But for Jeevan’s parents Jayaram and Chandrakala, all that crashed on Friday when they came to know that he got washed away, along with two of his friends in VC Canal near Mandya.
There is an eerie silence at Jeevan’s house in Muneshwara Block near Girinagar. His family members are not able to come to terms with his death. Jayaram struggled against all odds to ensure that his son became a doctor.
Working as a labourer in a ceramic tiles showroom on Magadi Road, Jayaram did whatever he could to see his son become a doctor. He had also arranged funds for him to study MD.
“My son always told me that as soon as he starts working, I should stop working. Poverty had forced us to take a decision to discontinue his studies when he was in SSLC. As he scored 70 per cent, we decided to continue his education, and he scored 98 per cent in PUC. Then, we could not say ‘no’ to him. We enrolled him for MBBS as per his wish. Knowing the difficulties we were facing, he always told that I should stop working the day he becomes a doctor,” said Jayaram.
Jeevan was the third son of Jayaram and Chandrakala. The first son, Bharath, a diploma holder, works for a private company, and the second daughter, Rashmi, is married. Jeevan was to receive his MBBS certificate in the convocation to be held on February 19.
“He had come home on February 7 and we all had planned to attend the convocation. We also visited Banashankari temple in Tiptur in Tumakuru to offer puja, as he had completed MBBS. He had enrolled with a college in Kerala for MD and also paid Rs 70,000 as fee. But one accident has killed his and all our dreams,” he lamented.
“Jeevan also wanted to serve the poor and was telling us that he would work in rural areas,” he added. Jeevan’s funeral was held at Banashankari crematorium on Saturday afternoon.
