Tamil Nadu: Faculty to be linked to Aadhaar to prevent falsification

For the past few years, there are several complaints that the educational institutions showing same faculties working in many places.

CHENNAI: In a move to prevent higher educational institutions from showing fake faculties, the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) is planning to gather the Aadhaar and educational qualification of faculty members in its annual All India Survey of Higher Education (AISHE) this year.

For the past few years, there are several complaints that the educational institutions showing same faculties working in many places. To curb this, the MHRD has decided to gather comprehensive information on the teaching faculty.

"The information related to the teachers like date of birth, educational qualification, annual income and the aadhar number will be gathered. It was decided to gather all these details before March 2017," said J. Kumar, director, Centre for Planning and Development, Anna University.

He represented Anna University in the AISHE meeting held in New Delhi on Wednesday. "It will be compulsory for all the teaching faculty members to give their Aadhaar number. The number will be linked to their educational details," he said.

Once, the number is linked to the educational qualifications and other details it will be difficult for the institutions to submit the fake faculty details.

The annual web-based survey covers all the educational institutions in the country. In this survey, general information such as teachers, student enrolment, programmes, examination results, education, finance, infrastructure and pupil-teacher ratio are being gathered.

It also plans to create the student volunteer database for the NSS activity. If they want to participate in the volunteer activity they will get the SMS alerts from the ministry.
