Belagavi: New entity for smart city projects

Mr Khader said the Union government had released Rs 886 crores and the state government too released a matching Rs 886 crores.

Belagavi: The state government has decided to set up a separate office for execution of ‘Smart City’ project.

During question hour in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, former chief minister Mr B S Yeddyurappa made the suggestion that officials, who are handling Smart City projects, were multi-tasking and therefore they were going on behind schedule.

Housing and urban development Minister Mr U T Khader said he would take steps to set up separate office exclusively for ‘Smart City’ project.s

The question was raised by Mr K S Eshwarappa on government's progress in implementing the ‘Smart Cit’y programme in Belagavi, Davanagere, Hubballi-Dharawad, Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Tumkuru and Bengaluru.

Mr Khader said the Union government had released Rs 886 crores and the state government too released a matching Rs 886 crores.

Mr Eshwarappa said the nodal officer in Shivamogga was Commissioner of Corporation as well as Chairman of Malnad Development Board as well as nodal officer for ‘Smart City’ Programme. Besides, there are a lot of rules, prohibiting execution of programmes above Rs 10 lakh, he added.
