New software to stem graft in GHMC's purchase office

The corporation will hire 56 IT employees as part of outsourcing and will develop the software.

Hyderabad: To curb corruption in purchase and maintenance departments, the GHMC has decided to use a sophisticated software. The corporation will hire 56 IT employees as part of outsourcing and will develop the software by January-end and implement it in the next month.

According to a GHMC official, due to lack of co-ordination, the civic authorities are clueless about the gadgets used by corporation officials.

The corporation has been losing crores of rupees annually. The transport wing swindled '26 crore in the purchase of spareparts. Interestingly, they purchased the spareparts from a bogus firms.

This scandal came light recently when B. Janardhan Reddy, GHMC commissioner, asked the Central crime station police to file criminal cases against the guilty. The GHMC lost money also in the purchase and repairs of computers, laptops, CCTVs, vehicles and TVs. The authorities are claiming fake bills for the repairs even though they are warranty periods.

A senior GHMC official said that the civic body would develop a sophisticated software where the information related to purchases will be integrated. The official said that the quotation on repair and vehicle maintenance will be uploaded in the data base.

The official also said that online payments will be made according to the standard rates fixed by the corporation after inking MoUs with the firms. The official also said that the corporation would also use the bio-metric system from the employee who generates bills for replacement and maintenance.
