Kochi: Crime Branch soon to arrest Maradu builder

The High Court order on Tuesday was on a petition filed by the CB stating that he was not eligible for the anticipatory bail.

Kochi: The Crime Branch (CB) team probing the alleged illegal appropriation of government land to build apartments in Maradu in violation of CRZ norms will soon make the arrest of Sandeep Mehta, Managing Director of Jain Housing and Construction as the Madras High Court on Tuesday overturned the anticipatory bail granted to him.

The High Court order on Tuesday was on a petition filed by the CB stating that he was not eligible for the anticipatory bail. “Mehta is currently absconding. The search for him has been expanded to more states. A lookout notice will likely be issued to prevent him go abroad,” a source said.

The CB had earlier served a notice to Mehta for appearing before them but he did not turn up. A search was held at Jain head office of in Chennai and few documents related to the case were found.

Meanwhile, bail petition of Jayaram Naik, the then UD clerk in the Maradu panchayat, was rejected by district court.

Meanwhile, Muvattup-uzha vigilance court will hear bail petition of three accused - Sani Francis, director, Holy Faith Builders and Mohammed Ashraf and P.E. Joseph, secretary, junior superintendent respectively of then Maradu panchayat.
