Thousands pay homage to Shankar at home town

Both Ponnusamy, also native of Uthangarai and Shankar had jointly tired to crack the IAS examination since 2002.

Krishnagiri: Thousands of people paid homage to the mortal remains of D. Shankar in his home town Uthangarai of Krishnagiri district.

On Friday, his body was brought here from Chennai, where the CEO of a private IAS coaching center had reportedly committed suicide.

"His death is unbelievable because Shankar was the man who changed his failure as success for others through his IAS training academy" R.Ponnusamy, an advocate told DC.

He added "as told by him, Shankar would have become IAS officer if he had succeeded. His failure has helped others to join government service"

Both Ponnusamy, also native of Uthangarai and Shankar had jointly tired to crack the IAS examination since 2002. They changed their career, Ponnusamy became an advocate and Shankar started the coaching center because of repeated failures in their attempt to clear the examination.

"We are good friends and both of us tried to clear the IAS examination but changed our profession because of the repeated failure," a grieving Ponnusamy said.

According to Ponnusamy, his younger 27-year-old younger brother R. Ramachandaran cleared the UPSC examination in 2014 and now works as an officer in Belagavi of Karnataka. He is the student of the Shankar's IAS training academy.
