Hyderabad: Padmaja Colony in Secunderabad Cantonment suffers four feet of inundation even when there is moderate rainfall due to poor drainage system. Residents complain that their multiple representations to the authorities have gone in vain.
The colony was inundated due to the rain that occurred on Wednesday night. Residents say that the problem has been persistent for the past three years.
Mr R. Lokanadham, president, Padmaja Housing Society, said, “Whenever there is a small rain, we have to face water stagnation for a long time due to clogged drains. We had approached the SCB regarding this issue, but no action was taken.”
The locality has schools and whenever it rains, parents and students have to wade through knee-high water, said the residents of the locality.
Another resident said, “Though our colony is not near any lake bed, drains from the surrounding colonies pass through our lane and this results in the choking of our drains.”
The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) sanitation officials were unavailable for comment.
