Hyderabad: The traffic police will be training the committees of various mosques in the city in traffic management. The move is being initiated owing to huge rush at the mosques in city situated on thoroughfares during the coming month Ramzan.
To begin with, the traffic police held an orientation programme for the members of mosque committees and apprised them on the importance of parking vehicles in an organised manner. The ‘Imam’ (one who leads the prayers) and ‘Muezzin’ (one who give call for prayers) also attended the programme.
“During Ramzan, scores of people visit the mosques five times a day, in addition to breaking the fast in the evening and the ‘tarawee’ prayers in night. The visitors park their vehicles on the road, often in a haphazard manner, as most mosques do not have adequate parking space resulting in traffic slowdown. To tide over the problem, we are training them to manage the traffic and parking,” said Additional DCP (Traffic) Mohd Tajuddin Ahmed.
The police identified mosques located on the main thoroughfares where traffic management is important owing to huge rush. “Almost all members of the mosques committees whom we sent a word attended the program and gave their willingness to cooperate with us. Every mosque will identify a few local youth and we will impart them basic traffic management training,” said DCP (Traffic) K. Babu Rao.
