CHENNAI: A day after AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa stormed the capital, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin campaigned in the city in his usual style of walking along the streets and mixing with the people.
Starting his campaign in Egmore, Stalin visited the residential areas and resorted to door-to-door campaign, shaking hands with people and seeking their votes. He went to Mannady area in Harbour constituency dominated by Muslims. Later, he proceeded to T. Nagar and then to Saidapet in the evening.
Stalin met the residents and assured to bring all amenities to their area when the DMK is voted to power. He also named infants and shook hands newly wed couples. He met the shop keepers and enquired about their grievances, promising to solve them.
At Pulianthope, he went to the first floor of a house and watched the campaign of his candidate below. At Vadapalani area, the traders welcomed him with shawls and some of them garlanded him. Women enthusiastically spoke to him and took selfies with him.
Later, he went to Poonamallee in a open van and campaigned for the DMK candidates. Later, he toured around Pallavaram and Tambaram areas.
Stalin had already toured around Chennai and campaigned on April 28 on Royapuram, R.K. Nagar, Tiruvottiyur, Madhavaram, Perambur, Anna Nagar, Chepauk-Tiruvallikkeni and Thousand Lights.
Again on May 4, Stalin covered the areas falling under Mylapore, Thousand Lights, T. Nagar, Saidapet, Virugambakkam, Alandur, Velachery and Sholinganallur. Earlier, speaking to reporters, at the start of his campaign, he warned the state government officials not to side with the ruling party during election.
