Hyderabad: Dharmapuri colony seeks water, protests at Water Board office
Hyderabad: Over 85 residents protested at the Water Board office on Tuesday against insufficient supply and low pressure.
Mr Vinay Varma of Dharmapuri Colony said, “We are getting poor supply for over the a month. We used to get water for one hour in full pressure, but now we are getting water for 10 minutes, that too without pressure. We can fill just two buckets.”
Mr Rameshwar Rao, Water Board director, operations and maintenance, said, “Water consumption, especially for drinking, incre-ases 25 per cent during summer.” The demand for tankers has increased by 30 per cent, especially from division 6 (SR Nagar), Malkajgiri and division 1 (Charminar).
He said the board was supplying 365 million gallons per day from Krishna and Godavari rivers, though its traditional sources in Singur, Manjeera, Him-ayatsagar and Osman-sagar had dried up.
He said the board could keep up this level of supply till the monsoons. He said the supply was irregular in certain areas because of poor distribution network and lack of storage tanks especially in the merged municipalities.
