Debt relief Act to tackle crisis in Telangana

Hyderabad: The TS government will bring in Debt Relief Bill to tackle the agrarian crisis caused by farm indebtedness resulting in suicides by farmers.

Parigi MLA from Congress, T. Ram Mohan Reddy, brought the issue of private moneylenders harassing farmers to recover loans during Question Hour in the Assembly on Saturday.

Mr Reddy pointed out that over 1,200 farmers had committed suicide in TS last year and indebtedness and harassment by private moneylenders was found to be the prime reason for the farmer suicides.

He sought an effective legislation to save farmers from harassment by private moneylenders. Deputy CM Mohd Mahmood Ali, who holds the revenue portfolio, said in his reply that the government was in the process of bringing Debt Relief Act in the ongoing session to safeguard the interests of farmers.

He admitted that the farmers are being harassed by private moneylenders and received several such complaints had been received from across the state.
