VISAKHAPATNAM/BHUBANESHWAR: Vizag airport has grown from a small shed to an international airport said Vizag MP K. Haribabu while participating as a Chief Guest at seminar on Promotion of International cargo facilities in Vizag airport. The completion of six parking bays will facilitate some of the airline operators to schedule early morning flights from Vizag to various destinations based on demand.

The night parking facility will increase the number of early morning flights to several parts of the country from the city and also  night landing of flights in the airport. He further requested all the manufacturers of the pharma companies to export their products through Visakhapatnam airport only. With the present improvement of  air connectivity and bonded trucking movement, the growth in initial years could be well above double digits.

Facilities like Animal Quarantine, a certifying authority for live animal and sea foods, Aqua Quarantine testing facility and appointment of additional drug controller would further improve the exports from this air cargo. At present, from Vizag Airport, air connectivity for cargo movement is available to Dubai, Singapore, Colombo, Kuala Lumpur. This would be further improved as the volume of cargo increases with facilities suggested above.

Welcoming the import and exporters,  G. Sambasiva Rao, President — AP chambers of commerce and industry federation, said this facility for air cargo was much needed while stating the fact that Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation has been well developed in the aviation sector. The facility is a major boon for local traders and exporters who have been facing a lot of difficulty in exports of their goods for want of an international air cargo facility in Vizag. The facility is expected to give a boost to export of pharmaceuticals, seafood, garments and metallurgical products.
