Two mega research projects for Visakhapatnam

Foundation stone to be set for projects on February 18.

Visakhapatnam: After facing various hurdles, the two much-awaited mega projects — Society for Applied Microwave Electronic Engineering & Research (Sameer), a research and development institute and software incubation centre by STPI — are going to be tangible with their foundation laying here on February 18.

Sameer is a Research and Development Institute under the administrative control of department of electronics and information technology, ministry of communications and information technology.

The project involves a budget of Rs 80 crore. How-ever, it had been embroiled in a land dispute over land acquisition issue involving farmers. The Vizag unit will be the fourth R&D complex by Sameer while other threes are located at Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

The complex would come up on a land area of 13 acres near IIM-V and it has already been possessed. The building plans have also been approved by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority and Sameer has already handed over work order to the central public works department.

The research and development institute’s main objective is to promote the growth of science and technology in the field of RF/microwave electronics, electro-magnetics, optoelectronics, millimeter wave technology and its allied areas. Efforts are being made to lay the foundation stone for the projects.
