Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary celebrated in Visakhapatnam

The guests and students garlanded the statue of Swami Vivekananda on the Beach Road and addressed the students.

Visakhapatnam: Marking the National Youth Day, educational institutions, government establishments and voluntary organisations conducted various events to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. A 5-K run was organised by India Youth For Society (IYFS) in association with Department of Youth Services, Nehru Yuva Kendra, NSS & NCC, Samskruthi Gourav Samstan and Alleviators, & Lending Hands. The guests and students garlanded the statue of Swami Vivekananda on the Beach Road and addressed the students. Prof. V Uma Maheswararao, Registrar, Andhra University said “The nation would be great if students adopt the motives of Swami. It was a great decision that the Govt of India decided the Birthday of Swami is as National Youth Day.”

With an appeal to students to take the oath to protect the ideas and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda, his birth anniversary was celebrated in GITAM here. GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.S. Prasada Rao, Vice-Chancellor Prof.K.Sivarama Krishna, Registrar Prof. M. Potharaju and others paid floral tributes. Speaking on the occasion the University Vice-Chancellor said that the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda are still relevant and remembered the national youth icon.
