Defectors' gamble pays off, win big with TRS

Luck did not favour those who went to the Congress.

Hyderabad: All MLAs who defected to the TRS in the last term won the Assembly elections, and those who moved to the Congress were defeated.

After the 2014 elections, about 28 MLAs belonging to the Congress, Telugu Desam, YSRC and the BSP defected to the TRS. Some of them like Mr Talasani Srinivas Reddy and Mr Indrakaran Reddy were made ministers. The TRS nominated all the defectors. Among the others who won were Errabelli Dayakar Rao, G. Vittal Reddy and from the BSP Koneti Konappa.

Luck did not favour those who went to the Congress. Mr A. Revanth Reddy who won from the TD in 2014 joined the Congress recently but was defeated from Kodangal by TRS candidate P. Narendar Reddy. Ms Konda Surekha who was denied a ticket by the TRS and joined the Congress was defeated at Parakala by TRS candidate Dharma Reddy.

BC leader R. Krishnaiah who won from TD in 2014 was given the Miryalaguda ticket by the Congress at the last minute. He was defeated by TRS candidate M. Bhaskar Rao. Incidentally, Mr Bhaskar Rao had won on a Congress ticket in 2014 but had joined the TRS. In Chevella, Mr Kale Yadaiah contested as a Congress candidate the last time round and Mr K.S. Ratnam contested as a TRS nominee. Later, Mr Yadaiah joined the TRS and Mr Ratnam the Congress. Mr Yadaiah defeated Mr Ratnam both times.

Ms Bodige Sobha was elected from Choppadandi as TRS candidate but was denied a ticket this time. She joined the BJP at the last minute and contested the polls but was defeated by the TRS candidate.

Mr Atram Sakku won from Asifabad as a Congress candidate and joined the TRS. He won this time on a TRS ticket.

Not all those who joined the TRS were lucky. From Wyra, Mr Banothu Madan Lal won from YSRC in 2014 and joined the TRS. He was defeated by independent candidate L. Ramulu this time.
