GHMC gets Rs 47 crore towards various tax

The last date to accept the notes was extended by 72 hours later in the evening.

Hyderabad: The GHMC received over Rs 47.03 crore towards property tax, vacant land tax, trade licence, pending arrears and other payment in a single-day scheme on Friday, with thousands of residents trying to dispose of their demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

The Metro Water and Sewerage Board collected Rs15 crore. Mee Seva and e-Eeva counters collected Rs 5.02 crore towards electricity and other bills.

The GHMC had set up counters across 30 circles, which witnessed rush throughout the day. e Seva and Mee Seva centres too saw queues throughout the day.

Many also made payments for development charges, change of land use cases, lease rentals and other charges to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority.

Following the extension of the deadline, officials said demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes would be accepted for making payments towards fees, charges, taxes and penalties to the Centre, state government, municipal and local bodies till November 14.

The old notes will also be accepted for making payments for utility charges for water and electricity. Mee Seva and e-Seva counters will accept '500 and '1,000 notes towards property tax and trade license. Payment can be made in all village panchayats.

The GHMC will also accept cheque for payments, with regard to building permission fees. The commissioner asked the general public not to pay bills to bill collectors but make payments through the online system of GHMC and Mee Seva.
