Kondagattu turned religious hub in 15 years

Hundreds of devotees throng to the temple from across Telangana every day and their numbers are usually more on Tuesdays.

JAGTIAL: The Kondagattu Temple in Jagtial district, which is known as the Kondagattu Anajanna temple has gained popularity in the last 15 years and many young men offer obeisance and end their deeksha at the temple after completing the sacred days. The temple is not only famous in Telangana but also in neighbouring Maharashtra. Film actor and president of the Jana Sena political party, Pawan Kalyan had also visited the Kondagattu Hanuman Temple a few months ago and offered special prayers before interacting with his supporters in Karimnagar city.

Hundreds of devotees throng to the temple from across Telangana every day and their numbers are usually more on Tuesdays. There is a huge annual congregation of devotees on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. Many young Hanuman devotees with deeksha take out a padayatra from their native villages to Kondagattu and end their deeksha with a special puja. There are many songs on ‘Kondagattu Anjanna’. The ‘Kondagattu Anjanna’ songs replaced the revolutionary and progressive songs sung by the Balladeer Gaddar and Arunodaya Vimalakka.

This was especially visible in the coal belt areas of north Telangana, where the Naxal movement was strong in the past. Karimnagar, Adilabad and Warangal districts were famous for the Naxal movement till 2000. But, things have changed and many youth have started being attracted to religious events and specially take deeksha post 1990 till date.
