Hyderabad: No staff to issue Aadhaar cards for babies

The card is issued within a few days of birth with the baby's picture and the parents' identification and other details.

Hyderabad: It has been two months since the GHMC announced Aadhaar cards for newborns but has not been able to link up with private hospitals for the facility. At present, the Aadhaar card is issued at birth only at the Petlaburj Maternity Hospital.

There are 1,400 private and government hospitals in the city. The delay is mainly from the hospitals as many lack data entry operators and only submit legal details of newborns on paper.

GHMC additional commissioner IT wing, Surendra Mohan said, when a baby is born, the hospital management takes note of the details such as parents’ names, address, gender etc. and a legal document is prepared. Those details are manually submitted it to the GHMC zonal officer for processing the birth certificate. He said in the case of Aadhaar cards, the GHMC has tied up with the UIDAI which issues the card. In this case, when a baby is born, she gets an Enr
olment Identification Number on the basis of the hospital documents and the Aadhaar card of the parents.

The card is issued within a few days of birth with the baby’s picture and the parents’ identification and other details.
