Warangal: Left to fate, 2 orphans seek help for studies

Their mother Aruna had died 18 months ago from tuberculosis.

WARANGAL: With no money, no shelter and no one to take care of them, two recently-orphaned girls are looking for a helping hand to continue their studies. Gedela Mounika, 13, and Bhavani, 12, lost their father Sunny Babu on January 31 due to a heart ailment.

Their mother Aruna had died 18 months ago from tuberculosis. The family had been living in Rayapura Colony since their parents migrated from Visakhapatnam about 20 years ago.

After the death of Sunny Babu, the colony residents tried to contact his younger brother in Visakhapatnam but he showed no interest in taking care of the girls or even cremating his brother. So the residents contributed and performed the funeral and ever since have been taking care of the two girls.

“Our grandparents died long back. We are studying in Class VII at the Government School in Basith Nagar. We have no money or shelter. Firdaus aunty brought us into her house after our father died,” Mounika said.

The girls are currently living with their neighbour Md Firdous. “Their father was elderly. He married at a very late age. When he died he must be about 70. The couple used to do petty jobs and had rented a room in the colony. After the man retired due to his age, Aruna would work in a hotel. But she died suddenly one day. The old man used to get pension but he too died of some heart problem,” Ms Firdous said.

The residents have also contacted the child helpline in hope of finding shelter for the girls. They are also appealing for help from outsiders. Interested donors can contact Ms Firdous on 9553675598.
