Vizag gets water treatment plant

We are ready to extend support to make Vizag a Smart City, says Ganta.

Visakhapatnam: Vizag has taken a step forward in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by commissioning a wastewater treatment system in the city, said HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

He was speaking after inaugurating the plant near Convent Junction, which cost the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Rs 30 crore.

Mr Rao said that the government would make the city a cultural hub and extend support to transform Vizag into a smart city.

“The total cost of the project was '244 crore, which was divided into 20 blocks. Nine blocks were completed and five are underway. The plant near Convent Junction treats the wastewater from about 30,000 houses,” he said.

“While works on the first and fourth divisions of the central treatment plant has been finished, work on the second and third division works are on the verge of completion, said Mr Rao.

He said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was determined to make every village as a asmart village. Mr Rao emphasised that citizens should play a vital role in protecting the beauty and cleanliness of Vizag city.

MLA V. Ganesh Kumar, GVMC commissioner Pravin Kumar and others were present.

Mr Srinivasa Rao also visited the ongoing works of the Children Theatre in Siripuram under Visakhapatnam Urban Development and asked the officials to speed up the work.
