Kozhikode: Buffaloes brought for slaughtering attacked

Officials from the forest department reached the spot from Kuttiady and inspected the animals and surroundings.

KOZHIKODE: Fear spread on the premises of Orkkatteri, famous for regional markets, when one of the 13 buffaloes brought there for slaughter found dead after an unknown animal attack.

Several others also got injured in the attack at night. Locals fear the presence of wild animals in the area, seeing the wounds in the neck of the dead buffalo.

Officials from the forest department reached the spot from Kuttiady and inspected the animals and surroundings. However, no conclusion has been made. It is believed that the incident would have happened on Wednesday night, as there were no caretakers for the animals nearby.

Locals say incidents of stray dogs attacking humans and animals were regular in the area, Kurinjaliyod, where the incident happened.

The local bodies also could not solve it even after repeated complaints. The accumulated slaughter waste is also a reason for the presence of the stray dogs.
